Applying the 2006 CHEP Guidelines for the management of hypertension by pharmacists

Introduction

Welcome to "Applying the 2006 CHEP Guidelines for the management of hypertension by pharmacists" online continuing education (CE) lesson developed by the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA).

Hypertension affects 20% of the population, and despite access to a variety of effective medications, remains a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. As one of the most accessible health care professionals, pharmacists are in a unique position to provide valuable health information and services to influence optimal patient health outcomes in patients with hypertension.

The CPJ Supplement on Hypertension, which includes the "2006 CHEP Guidelines for the management of hypertension by pharmacists" was originally published as a supplement to the May/June 2006 issue of the Canadian Pharmacists Journal. The pharmacist practice guidelines were adapted directly from the Canadian Hypertension Education Program (CHEP) 2006 recommendations.

Developed by leading pharmacists and physicians, the CPJ (Canadian Pharmacists Journal) supplement on Hypertension provides pharmacists with the necessary practice guidelines, tools and supporting information to apply best practices in the management of hypertension.
